The Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra(SSK) has been organising various events for the promotion of dance, drama and music of both traditional and contemporary folds. Apart from a variety of festivals and cultural programme on dance and music, the SSK has also been organising training workshops on folk and traditional dance forms as well as Sattriya classical dance and music of Assam regularly. Since the year 2000, SSK has been arranging a 17th day cultural event on the occasion of New Year. Different ethnic groups of Assam like the Bodo, Rabha, Mishing, Deori, Tiwa, Hajong, Dimasa, Rengma, Khelma, Kuki, Rongmai, Manipuri, Hmar, Jaintias, Garo, Karbi, Tai Khamti, Tai Phake, Jemi Naga, Tai-Turung, Tai-Aiton, Tai-Khamiyang, Singpho, various Tea Communities and Adibasis, Sonowal Kachari, Thengal Kachari, Koch Rajbanshi, Moran, Matak etc participate in this festival. Apart from the ethnic communities of the North-Eastern region, performing groups from all over the country including West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerela, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar etc have participated in this festival. Another regular cultural event called the ‘Rongali Utsav’, the Festival of Bihu is being organized every year in association with Assam Tourism on 28th, 29th & 30th April every year since 1999. The music and dance related to the spring festival of every ethnic groups of Assam have been performed in this festival besides other programmes like contemporary and old Assamese modern songs, performed by renowned singers of Assam. Apart from these regular and annual events, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra has been organizing different cultural events, workshops, seminars, etc. on different aspects of dance, drama and music from time to time.
